Biography

A Business-Minded Approach to Complex Law.

Matthew I. Van Horn is a North Carolina attorney who represents individuals, families, and businesses in complex legal matters. His practice pairs legal analysis with the financial and strategic perspective of a business education — an approach shaped by earning both a J.D. and an M.B.A. from the University of Tulsa, where he served as an editor of the Tulsa Journal of Comparative & International Law. He completed his undergraduate studies at Hampden-Sydney College.

Before establishing his North Carolina practice, Matthew practiced in Washington, D.C.’s Watergate Building. Today he is admitted in North Carolina and in multiple federal courts, including the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of North Carolina and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. In 2026, he was admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States.

Beyond his litigation practice, Matthew serves on the North Carolina Psychology Board and is a court-appointed arbitrator — roles that reflect both his standing in the profession and his interest in the disciplined resolution of difficult questions.
